If you don’t have a smile, i’l give you one of mine! :)

I had a smile, I gave my smile away

The milkman and the postman enjoyed it every day

I took it to the shop, I had it on the street

I gave it without thinking, to all I chanced to meet

I gave my smile away, as thoughtless

Ever thought why we humans are blessed with a gift of a smile?Smile is a response to a stimuli, your body sometimes automatically generates it and a smile comes naturally and spontaneously. Also at times we feel something is funny or beautiful and we pass a smile willingly.Smile detoxifys our hearts, emotions, thoughts as well as our biological system.

Science proves that smile releases essential hormones in the bloodstream called endorphins and T-cells.A natural feeling of well-being comes with the release of these hormones and all kinds of stress and depression is gone with the wind. Also, smile is a catharsis for our emotional stress.

We are not blessed with the art and science of smiling only…..this world is full of reasons to smile.Nature has so much to offer, beauty of the sunshine, clouds drifting by, raindrops, rainbows, flowers, waterfalls, greenery growing even at the most unexpected places, colors, trees swaying in the wind with leaves blowing everywhere in autumn, feeling the breeze blowing gently, birds chirping, the young ones of animals with their innocent looks, beautiful peacocks, butterflies, babies with their cute looks and gestures, a moonlight starry night sky…….There’s beauty everywhere, and they generate notions for beaming 🙂

I am always so inclined to smiling when i look at kids. They smile unconditionally. Tickle them and they chuckle, catch a glimpse of them when they are watching their favourite cartoons or playing with their favourite toy…they are so excited, faces all lit up with smiles, their eyes are so full of amazement seems they’ll pop right out and fall on the floor! They get so amused whenever something makes them pleased and smile wholeheartedly whenever they find a thing worthy of appreciation.Even a few animals have such smiley faces, although they can’t smile.Look at the bottlenose dolphins, they are such lovely treat to watch, seems they are passing you a smile! But, we must always remember, that the smile of our kids will be strengthened by our own, because they always look upto us, and we need to practice it ourselves more often, as i read somewhere a beautiful quote:

“Children learn to smile from their parents”. Shinichi Suzuki

We can also trigger reasons to smile!I do know a few people i met in my life, which hardly smile, infact i can declare without hesitation that they may never had smiled in all their lives…which reminds me of a Russian fairytale i read as a child, of a princess who NEVER smiled, and how one day she saw an ordinary man passing under her window falling in a puddle of mud and started laughing loud.It takes a jiffy to smile, we just need to be sincere enough to feel happy, because it is happiness which initiates a sunshine smile on our faces.Even the craziest things can bring a smile on someone’s face, even an incident!

If we notice, most of us are more often gloomy and sad, as compared to being cheerful or happy. What we don’t know is that it is a sign of psychological disorders! If that’s so, majority of people living on this earth are moving towards serious psychological problems, and they don’t even know it.Solution, however is in our own hands, but some of us are weak emotionally and they can’t fight it out. Most of them carry artificial smiles and they think they fool the world, infact they fool themselves. They should understand how smile or laughter invigorates us.The strength, is always within our grasp!

“Courage, not compromise, brings the smile of God’s approval”. Thomas S. Monson

We are becoming more and more eccentric i feel. The focus of our attention becomes the melancholy in our lives, in the lives of others, all around this world. We are also creating more and more miseries in this world. All of these factors make us loose our focus from the small teeny weeny good things in life, everybody experiences them but doesn’t consider them worthy of our consideration. We need to make those small moments of joy the highlights of our life, and if others don’t give us reasons to be happy for, we can always create them.

“And the smile that is worth the praises of earth is the smile that shines through tears.”

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Nobody can deprive us from our share of ecstacy! We can never let others deprive us of what is ours, we need to obtain happiness, and than share it with others who need it.Let those people know that they can never come in the way of the sun!Sunshine will reach everywhere, and lit all faces with beaming smiles.

“Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears.”        Anonymous

Doing what makes us happy gives us satisfaction and pleasure to smile. We can sing or dance in the rain, listen to good music, read interesting books, watch comedy movies, create some piece of art, bake a cake, cook a meal for our family, travel, recalling good memories…..we don’t usually take out much time for doing something everyday which truly is for our sakes and which makes us feel good.Instead, most of us are entangled with our daily routines, doing things which please others. We need to do things for us everyday, so that it pumps us with pleasure and enjoyment, to last throughout.Only then we can do things selflessly for others, and complete our daily chores and tasks without considering them a load or excess baggage.

Being gracious also makes us happy.Feeding the birds or the ducks in the pond, helping an elderly cross the street, Sharing ur umbrella with some one in need on a rainy day, making someone feel good about themselves, taking out time for others and sharing it with them, giving a candy to a little kid who’s crying for some reason, any act of goodness which gives a sense of peace and gratification, a delightful experience which keeps us glad and raises our spirits. If we feel a sense of accomplishment, it certainly generates plenty of booming smiles…

How many of us are happy with life and what it has to offer? There are heaps of dis-satisfaction within all of us, with our lives and the way they are going. We need to remember that life is an amalgamation of both light and darknesss, the sun doesn’t shine all the time, the clouds do come up, but we can always hurl them away:

“After every storm the sun will smile; for every problem there is a solution, and the soul’s indefeasible duty is to be of good cheer.”             William R. Alger

“Remember even though the outside world might be raining, if you keep on smiling the sun will soon show its face and smile back at you.”            Anna Lee

Have we ever thought to be thankful to one and all who are responsible for this world, this life and everything that’s in it?The answer of majority will be no.We just expect and want everyone to meet our expectations, but we never really are thankful to those who meet them. It’s time to be gracious – to God first of all, who has blessed us with life, our parents who bring us into this world and raise us with care and love, our homelands for giving us identity, our siblings, better half’s, friends and even kids, who brighten up our lives. We have so much to be thankful for and happy about!Life is full of smiles, we just need to grab them and stick them on our faces, feeling and experiencing them from the depths of our hearts.

There is alot of negativity within humans, we are not considerate and kind towards others. The more goodness encompasses us, the more we will be happy, and the more happiness we can spread around.

“It is almost impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.”           Unknown

Also, without making happiness available to all the rest of the world, what do we have to glanceupon and smile? There are many deprived, under priviledged in this world.Without showing empathy towards them, we can only frown:

“Let him who expects one class of society to prosper into highest degree, while the other is in distress, try whether one side of his face can smile while the other is pinched. Try whether.”            Thomas Fuller

Life is all flamboyant, adorned with needed joys and knitted carefully with beauty to rejoice.Because, we need to uplift our broken hearts and weary spirits after agony – all those dull moments in our lives deserve smiles even more. What’s the use of the capacity to chirk up, if we don’t amidst sorrow?

“The robbed that smiles, steals something from the thief”.

William Shakespeare (Othello)

So…where’s that good old Mona Lisa smile of our’s, hmmm have to find it here somewhere! Let’s Smile ….. a while, to become as happy as a clam, face the troubles in life with a big bright smile, let’s show this world that we are humans who are blessed with the strength and purpose to smile, and we will definately do so!May we all be surrounded by happiness as long as we live, and may we carry it and spread it where ever we go!Let’s achieve Euphoria!

“Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day. “

Quoted in Movie ‘P.S. I Love You’, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

  1. I liked this post, and I totally agree with it. But the most bitter fact about smiling is when you smile to strangers and they give you a frown look. That happens a lot here in Down Under.
