We’ll Make Peace – Piece by Piece!

“Lord, bid war’s trumpet cease;
Fold the whole earth in peace”.             Oliver Wendell Holmes

The birds chirped, flowers at a bloom, brooks bubbled by, rainbows in the sky…..PERFECT!And then, man decided to diminish the ideal beauty and amenity of life. The earth was a beautiful place till man had not yet decided to arise conflict.

“Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals”.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

The world since it’s advent has witnessed numerous wars, which only equates to one thing: Man is offensive. He loves to engage in rivalry. And he is brutal enough to prove he’s right, with MIGHT!Wars have usually been waged for acquiring control, immense power, ego, pride, resources, economic benefits, territorial procurement, making a point, or just for the sake of revenge or hatred.

“One must look hard through history to find when a clear understanding of the truth moved anyone to fire the first shot”.                  Robert Brault

Before the World War II, the conventional warfare was the usual regimen. The wars during the Prehistoric Era were faught using conventional weapons like spears, arrow heads and bows, bronze age saw the use of copper daggers and chariots, followed by iron age which used iron made weapons and transportation mediums.

“To injure an opponent is to injure yourself. To control aggression without inflicting injury in the Art of Peace”.                    Morihei Ueshiba

During Ancient Warfare Era, which made use of catapults, seigetowers, clubs. The Macedonian, Egyptian, Persian, Greek, Chinese, Roman, Balkans, Celtic,Germanic, Japanese and Indian Empires of the era waged in wars.

“An unjust peace is better than a just war”.               Marcus Tullius Cicero

Medieval Warfare marked wars taking place around castles and fortifications, with the capture of the fortification ended the war.Armor and pigeons were often used.Armies carried relics, and as war carried on for days, ample supplies to the fortifications were insured.Arabs, Vikings, Mongols and the turks emerged successful in these wars.

“No nation ever had an army large enough to guarantee it against attack in time of peace, or ensure it of victory in time of war”.          Calvin Coolidge

The Gun Powder Era, as evident from its name, developed gunpowder used in the battles.Firearms, armors, and conons were extensively used.Persians, Mughuls and the Ottoman Empire underwent wars during this period.

“If they want peace, nations should avoid the pin-pricks that precede cannon shots”.

Napoleon Bonaparte

During the Industrial Warfare Era, after World War I with the development of rail roads, and nations more inclined to develop assets and grow in resources saw huge miltary advancements, artillery guns, tanks, cargo ships and cargo aircrafts were inducted in the fleets. The various militart strategies like trench, maneuver, naval and aerial warfares all were deployed.Gurella warfare and many other military strategies were also devised.

“The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war”.            Ralph Waldo Emerson

After the nuclear cability development and subsequent usage in the World War II, a Cold War existed between major world powers, trying to maintain balance of power by developing new weapons and matching capabilities.During this period some indirect proxy wars were also engaged in.

“In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons”.                Herodotus

World War II changed the whole scenario of warfare. Now,biological, chemical and nuclear weapons constituting unconventional warfare is also an option, which no nation is hesitant of defying to use in times of need.It means the world is susceptible to a greater damage and loss as a result of warfare in the new era.

“Five great enemies to peace inhabit with us: avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride. If those enemies were to be banished, we should infallibly enjoy perpetual peace”.        Francesco Petrarch

Throughout history, none of the wars brought fruitful results or proved the dominance of nations. The most deadliest of all the wars ever has to be the Second World War(6-9 August, 1945).The Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor aroused tensions between America and Japan. When Japan didn’t surrender, the fatal mistake for the first and the last use of atomic power took place, which shocked humanity and ended innumerable lives in the two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The tragic effects of the lethal weapon were beyond imagination.Half of the deaths took place at the very minute of nuclear explosions ,while remaining were curtailed due to radiations, burns, and other chemical inhilation effects. For years Japan has been bearing the negative effects of the harmful radiations. The inflexibility of two minds took as estimated 246,000 lives in both the cities alone, let alone the casualties and deaths in the whole War.

“We have all taken risks in the making of war. Isn’t it time that we should take risks to secure peace?”

J. Ramsay MacDonald

Since decades, man has raised his voice against opression, but it still exists. In my opinion, wars can never be created in a mind that is at harmony. We have ceased to strive for the peace of minds.Only a peaceful mind and heart can create peace around it.

“A warless world will come as men develop warless hearts”. Charles Wesley Burns

When a brain starts to think and a heart starts to feel in the language of exaggerated pride and ego, conceit and irrational selfishness, then it rests only after pulverizing many precious people under it’s feet, only after it succumbs life.Only after that it realizes nothing but loss of life has been curtailed, as a result of all the vengeance, and no one could prove a point.Such a loss is unreversable.

“We are not at peace with others because we are not at peace with ourselves, and we are not at peace with ourselves because we are not at peace with God”.              Thomas Merton

The dichotomy of war and peace has never been challenged.Never have we strived to find or create a world in between the two, where both can meet and negotiate.Human enmity and hatred has never been able to reach out because of the high rising walls it builds around it.The bridges of love, hope and unity are always left incomplete with the haste to wenge wars.Nobody has given peace a chance, without hate, disagreement, and indifference in our hearts and minds, at least not with sincerity and good intentions.

“Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love”.             Martin Luther King, Jr.

“While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart”.             Francis of Assisi

A sad spectacle however,is the justification that even peace demands war. There is no sincerity in implementing peace. There are masks which conceal the true intentions of nations. How can war be the only answer, when it’s the most difficult and the most fatal of all?Why is our approach so twisted?

“If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a “peace conference,” you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and airplanes”.             Joseph Stalin

Humans have devised ways to hurt, but lack the intelligence to device ways to soothe and comfort? There are weapons of mass destruction, but no one invented tools of mass construction?

“The science of the mind can only have for its proper goal the understanding of human nature by every human being, and through its use, brings peace to every human soul”.            Alfred Adler

I believe truth and self-realization can stop the wars to start ever. But what about those who dont realize and dont accept the truth? All the laws in the world hang people for stealing bread for hunger, but none can stop one man in the name of opression, who fails to accept the disagreement and existence of others?A number of people decide the fate of millions, who gave them the right to kill and be killed? Why don’t we wanna LIVE AND LET LIVE?

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace”.          Jimi Hendrix

Power, is a ruthless and merciless achievement. If not acquired in the proper quotient destroys everything. If below requirements, it develops a hunger to acquire more, if more than required, it makes one consider himself invincible.Once acquired at the required proportions, makes you a super power keeps you longing for authority to use it, and control the rest. After that, the rest is power struggle, and it defines the world order. So, no end!

“The power of man has grown in every sphere, except over himself”. Winston Churchill

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power”.

Abraham Lincoln

“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny”.          Thomas Jefferson

I don’t want such authority my Creator!Just grant me the art to give peace to hearts and minds of others.Let me bring peace within, so that they can bring peace around.I am capable of only this much, please make me successful in my endeavors!(AMEN!)
“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that dis-empowers them or one that can literally save their lives”. Tony Robbins

The brooks wanna flow, birds wanna sing, flowers wanna grow, life wants to go on, without fears of reaching its confines, not without achieving its purpose, going down wasted!Being a victim of others insecurities, their malice, their in-acceptances, their in-susceptibilities is tolerable no more.

“Yes, we love peace, but we are not willing to take wounds for it, as we are for war”.

John Andrew Holmes, Wisdom in Small Doses

Clash of ego’s and obstinacy’s have only resulted in man’s annihilation.Humanity is forced to give in, surrender their lives and the right to breathe freely in this world, at the hands of fellow human’s who dominate our will’s, our esteem’s through the use of power.

“I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it”.                       Dwight D. Eisenhower

“Peace is our gift to each other”.                       Elie Wiesel

Please let our coming generations live, let them taste a life which is their own, without any mushroom clouds hovering over them, don’t encage them in the cages of your goals, don’t use them as pawns on the battlefield.Let them say what they want, they are your kids, they are our kids, kids of tomorrow, give them a peaceful today, help them carve a niche for them in the times to come, let them believe in life, let them develop their faith in a new calm and beautiful united world, where war is a crime, and death is not cheaper than life.Let them create a new land with beauty of thoughts and purity of emotions, and with the magic wand of peace, everythings possible!I loved this quote of If given a chance to prove wars can be blessed, i would most certainly participate in its new scheme for a ‘Crayola Bomb War’:

Credits:Hilde Vanstraelen

“Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air – explode softly – and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth – boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn’t go cheap, either – not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination”.            Robert Fulghum

Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, in his will declared that all his assets in The Bank of Sweden, be given as prize money every year to individuals coming up with efforts towards peace. It is known as the “Nobel Peace Prize”.But even he was skeptical of much peace as a result:

“I intend to leave after my death a large fund for the promotion of the peace idea, but I am skeptical as to its results”.
Alfred Nobel

We are forced to live in a hostile world. There are many fears within us, because of man’s offenses. Our inventions are more powerful than us, so much that we are held hostage by them. This world we live in, is built on an atomic explosion ready to go ticking anytime, because of man’s interests.A world built inside a bubble that can burst ANY time.War is the most futile creation of man, because it surpasses any bounds of humanity, human rights and justice. It only leaves behind loss, tyranny, pain, tears, bloodshed, hopelessness.Let us work for the same old peaceful world we were blessed with, we have lost alot already, lets not loose more…..REVERT to PEACE!

  1. As always another important, thought provoking piece from you. I so agree with you that war is the most futile creation of man. How much longer will mankind be at odds with each other, sow hatred, division and suspicion. An eye for an eye. And so we must begin to step up all efforts to educate mankind on peace – not just the superficial tolerance of each other but a sincere love and acceptance for all as our own brothers and sisters regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs, social economic backgrounds and gender. Abolish poverty.
“The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.” Baha’u’llah (1817-1892)
Let’s do this together – starting with our children, then our communities, our countries and our world. With much love and respect, Sharon

  2. Missed you Sharon, where were you?True, it’s a shame. We love to be admired only in response to power,Power gives a fake sense of achievement, which doesn’t last long. We’ve been exploiting color, creed, race and religion for creating barriers between us, infact we have been exploiting humanity. Our coming generations have been force-feeded only hatred, racism, intolerance, bigotry.
I fear the day my kids, who are living in an imaginary world, which is moral and ethical, united, free from discrimination, open their eyes to the world we are giving them. What will they think about our inabilities?
We haven’t been able to bring peace within. It comes from the purity of thoughts and emotions.Morality infers it.We have been preaching it to our children, but what will happen the day they come to know that we lacked it?
God knows where the animosity of man will end, hope it’s before the world ends!I pray we develop realization and our ability to reason, SOON!(AMEN!)
Thanx for reading and appreciating my posts Sharon, i feel good when i see like-minded people.Gives me hope!
